Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate advantages of the percutaneous transpeduncular system Sextant in traumatic vertebral fractures in comparison with traditional transpeduncular systems of the stabilization in traumatic vertebral fractures.
Material and methods: The results of the treatment of 70 patients with traumatic vertebral fractures (Frankel E) aged 18 – 67 years (mean age 47,4 + 1,7 years) were analyzed. All patients were divided into two comparable groups based on the clinical-demographic and roentgenological indices. In the first group (n = 35), the traditional transpeduncular systems of stabilization was used. In the second group (n = 35), the percutaneous transpeduncular system Sextant was placed.
Results: Owing to the percutaneous transpeduncular system Sextant, it was possible to significantly reduce the volume of intraoperating blood loss (on average by 600 ml), to shorten the time of operation (on average by 20 – 30 min), and also to reduce the patients stay in hospital. During first 24 h after operation, the pain syndrome was less pronounced and temporary incapacitation terms were significantly lower in the 2nd group of patients.
Conclusion: The percutaneous transpeduncular system Sextant in traumatic vertebral fractures has a number of essential advantages over traditional systems of spine column stabilization.
