(October, 2012)
Susan D. Ruppert, Ph.D., R.N., professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing on October 13, in Washington, D.C. A 2012 class of 176 of the nation’s top nurse researchers, policymakers, scholars, executives, educators, and practitioners was honored during the academy’s 39th annual meeting and conference. Only the most distinguished nurse leaders who have made significant contributions to the field and whose careers influence health policies and better health for all are eligible to use the credentials ‘FAAN‘. The American Academy of Nursing currently includes about 1,800 fellows. The Academy's Fellows are nursing's most accomplished leaders in education, management, practice, and research. They have been recognized for their extraordinary nursing careers, and are among the nation's most highly-educated citizens. With more than 2.8 million registered nurses in the United States, selection is a very high professional honor.
